Lia Stouten who was born in Oosterland, in the province of Zeeland, the Netherlands is a graphic artist. Not only does she do graphic art, she also creates spatial graphic installations and books. Her pictograms are of a refreshing simplicity and are pleasantly natural in their linearity. Lia Stoutens work comprises of graphic forms and abstract motives created with rhythm and repetition, horizontal and vertical division, so characteristic of her work. Forms and plants, colours of the landscape, dreams, culture and nature, these are the things that give her inspiration. The subjects of her work are closely linked to poetry and the universal human language. Her work has an affinity with Japanese and Oriental art, where nature is powerfully but subtly depicted with the help of simple materials and the use of vivid colours. Lia Stouten only makes a few copies of her work, the etch plates are consequently cut up and fitted with different, bright colours. Lia Stouten (1951) studied at the Academy of Arts (ABK) in Arnhem. (1976) As of 1989 she has been a member of the group of Visual Artists of Gelderland (GBK), and in 2004 she became a member of the Association of Original Graphics (VOG). From 1983 onwards her work has been exhibited in expositions in The Netherlands and Germany. Her art has been bought by companies, councils, private owners and also art-borrowing centers.
